4-162113 - Refinery Reduces PRV Maintenance Costs by 35% with Emerson Software for Risk Based Inspection A 65-year-old refinery faced rising costs maintaining their aging pressure relief valves (PRVs). Adding to the challenge, specialized knowledge of these assets was rapidly decreasing as employees retired. A major driver for the high cost associated with PRV maintenance was the system in place to assign service intervals, which were not driven by empirical data. These intervals drove the direct cost of repair, as well as all associated costs including material handling, transportation and administrative costs, without adding any margin of safety. Using specialized, purpose-designed software, Emerson Lifecycle Services applied risk based inspection (RBI) methodology to set new service intervals, reducing the aging plant’s costs while maintaining the safety level the valves were made to provide. 45 minutes Workshop Kevin Simmons - Director, Life Cycle Services, PRM, Emerson
