2-162194 - Reducing Project Risk for PBF Energy – Toledo Refining Center Hydrocracking Unit SIS Upgrade

Session Description

PBF Energy – Toledo Refining Center needed to add a new SIL3 Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) for low flow detection of hydrogen to their hydrocracker. The existing piping was a custom centrifugally cast nonstandard steel. There was no procedure to qualify welds that would be needed to add the low flow measurement to the existing pipe. Between the cost to replace all the existing piping, the downtime that would be incurred, and the risk to the project schedule an alternative solution was needed. Toledo Refining Center utilized a Rosemount 9295 Process Meter to reduce project risk and minimize the cost of piping improvements to facilitate the flow measurement.
