A Middle Eastern oil company developed plans to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal, and included a network of regasification, storage, and marine facilities. The facility is designed to feed the nation’s power plants, generating enough power to meet electricity demand during peak times. As the company mapped the pipeline that would transport LNG materials from storages tanks to the loading terminals, they opted to build a single large pipeline for this critical application instead of multiple smaller pipelines. As a result, the reliability of the LNG transport system depended on this sole pipeline and mandated it be protected from over pressurization via a high-integrity pressure protection system (HIPPS), ensuring safety and success for this high-stakes application.
