Session Description

Without a new cost model for well pad delivery, Oil Sands Producers would not be able to deliver sustaining well pads to ongoing operations that would be cost effective for shareholders. Disruptive vision and unified collaboration were necessary for real change to fix the spiralling business model. In 2014, Wood in Calgary set a goal to reduce SAGD (steam assisted gravity drainage) well pad costs from over +$4 to $1.5 million per well pair. The challenge was figuring out how to achieve this ambitious goal without sacrificing safety, reliability, and operability. Wood's unique object-oriented engineering (OOE) techniques complemented with a DeltaV electronic marshalling strategy allowed them to exceed customer requirements by completing the project on schedule, budget, and quality.
